About Skip Carlin
Rooted in History. Designed for Today
With 18 years of experience owning antique shops in Chicago, Providence, and Newport, Skip Carlin brings an understanding of historical styles, craftsmanship, and storytelling into every space he touches.
Whether it’s reimagining a seaside cottage or refining a grand second home, Skip approaches each project with intuition, creativity, and practicality.
Design Philosophy
Presentation-Driven Design
Skip begins by photographing your space—because photos reveal what the eye sometimes overlooks. He then digitally alters these images to explore concepts and share visual possibilities with you directly by email.
Architectural Awareness
Before selecting colors or fabrics, Skip first considers the bones of a space—its layout, light, and proportion. Years of studying architecture inform his suggestions.
Collaborative & Remote-Friendly
From coastal Rhode Island to New York and beyond, many of Skip’s clients rely on phone and email communication. His background in advertising makes him a clear and effective communicator—especially when projects span distances.
Budget-Conscious Creativity
Skip loves discovering overlooked gems—an old vase turned into a lamp, a vintage chair with new upholstery. Style doesn’t need to come with a hefty price tag.
